May 2023 Foundation “Launch”

On Saturday, May 13th, we gathered with friends, family, and supporters at the home of Randy Plimpton to make a belated but heartfelt toast to the legal incorporation of The Plimpton Foundation as a 501c3 charitable organization. We talked about our mission, background and goals, offered a report on the incredible accomplishments of our scholarship recipients, and enjoyed cocktails and conversation. We introduced our two-fold strategic approach:

a) scholarships: supporting voice students from Native, indigenous, and other under-represented groups, and

b) artistic work: commissioning and presenting music from native, indigenous, and other under-represented composers and performers.

Tim talked about his experience growing up, the importance of his own musical education, and the impact of native visibility. We listened to some wonderful music. Tim played one of his original compositions for last summer's Moab Festival. He accompanied songs and arias from current TPF scholarship recipient Evan McMahon and mezzo-soprano Alicia Esmeralda Barry. The singing and playing was wonderful, reminding us of our purpose and how much it means to this inspiring new generation. The sense of a growing community of support and goodwill was palpable.

The evening was a grand success in every way -- except as a fundraiser. If you'd like to join our circle, please click on the link below to contribute and help us do our work.

Here's to The Plimpton Foundation -- and especially to Randy and Tim, whose late night conversations about art and life have sown the seeds for so much music yet to come!
